Synopsis:
In an attempt to take her mind off the recent death of a lover, transexual showgirl Bernadette agrees to join her drag queen friends Tick (aka Mitzi) and Adam (aka Felicia) for a month's engagement in Alice Springs, setting off for the outback in a gaudily painted bus they christen Priscilla. Tick reveals the resort they are heading for is run by his wife; Bernadette and Felicia are hurt by this hitherto unknown aspect of Tick's past. When they arrive at a small outback town, the townspeople are at first shocked and outraged, but are soon won over. However the next morning the trio find someone has sprayed homophobic graffiti all over Priscilla. Later they break down in the middle of nowhere, but eventually an Aborigine passes by and takes them back to his settlement, where they perform their act. They are later helped by truckdriver Bob, who admits he was a fan of Bernadette's act years before and persuades them to do their routine in the local pub. However, they are somewhat upstaged by the act of Bob's wife. The next day, Bob takes them back to the bus and fixes it; he then decides to join the trio on the road. At a small mining down, Felicia visits the local pub in full drag on his own. He is mistaken for a woman and then beaten up when the miners discover the truth. Finally they reach Alice Springs, where there are further surprises: Tick has a young son, Benji. Worried about what Benji might think of what he does for a living, Tick tries to act as straight as possible around him. But Benji knows all about his father and demands to see their famous Abba routine.
