A mixed Romanian and Norwegian couple relocate with their children to the remote fjord village where the wife was born, hoping for a fresh start in the small, close-knit community. Their carefully planned new life is thrown into crisis when they clash with a neighbouring family holding starkly different values, a conflict that escalates into serious allegations of abuse against their own children. Marking director Cristian Mungiu's first English-language feature, and reuniting him with Romanian-born star Sebastian Stan in his first Romanian-language role since childhood, the film won the Palme d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, making Mungiu only the tenth filmmaker to win the award twice. A delicate, intimate story handled with real precision, Mungiu once again demonstrating a masterful command of moral ambiguity, deservedly recognised with his second Palme d'Or.
