Still grieving his father Mitt's death, scuba diver Jay Gardiner dives off California's Central Coast in search of his remains, only to be swallowed whole by an 80-foot sperm whale. Trapped in the pitch-black, crushing confines of the creature's stomach with just an hour of oxygen remaining, Jay is forced to confront both his dwindling odds of survival and the fractured, difficult relationship he shared with his father, whose hard-won wisdom may hold the key to escaping alive.
Review:
A tense, technically inventive survival thriller that finds real emotional depth in its claustrophobic setup, anchored by a raw, committed Austin Abrams performance carrying much of the film alone.
