Set in 1960s Lima, Norma, a Franco-Peruvian woman abandoned by her husband, finds herself not only grieving the loss of her marriage but facing the contempt of the capital's elitist society. Refusing to give up, Norma seizes an unlikely path forward, gathering people from communities previously unknown and unwelcome to her to launch a restaurant. Through the process of building it, she rediscovers her adopted country's spectacular culinary and cultural diversity, and in doing so, rediscovers herself.
Review:
A visually and sonically rich historical melodrama anchored by Bárbara Mori's compelling lead performance, even where its emotional journey occasionally feels underwritten against its handsome production values.
