Sent by a New York publisher to the Swiss chalet of celebrated but reclusive thriller writer Patricia Highsmith, a young literary agent arrives hoping to persuade her to write one final novel starring her signature creation, the amoral con man Tom Ripley. As Highsmith toys with and tests her visitor across an increasingly tense, claustrophobic confrontation, the line between author and creation begins to blur, and the negotiation gradually turns as sinister and duplicitous as anything in her own fiction.
Review:
A smouldering, elegantly cruel two-hander that finds real menace in the battle of wits between its leads, Helen Mirren delivering a deliciously guarded performance as a woman who may be more dangerous than the killer she created.
