In 1977, scrappy, defiant disability rights activist Judy Heumann and more than a hundred fellow protestors occupy a San Francisco federal building, refusing to leave until the government enforces long-ignored civil rights protections for disabled Americans. Over the ensuing 28 days, the longest nonviolent occupation of a U.S. federal building in history, Heumann and her fellow activists face down political stalling and public indifference, in a fight that would help pave the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Review:
A rousing, crowd-pleasing true story that refuses to sand down its disabled subjects into saintly inspiration figures, anchored by a funny, fierce and fully human performance from Ruth Madeley.
