Celeste, a former Army sniper who now manages a desert trailer park for military veterans, spends her days haunted by black-and-white memories of war, her target practice interrupted when her ex-husband unexpectedly drops off their young daughter for a visit. When a trio of genetically engineered super soldiers, the product of a secretive military experiment, breaks loose nearby, Celeste is forced back into action to protect her daughter and community, racing against both the escaped threat and a team of ruthless mercenaries sent to contain it before the night is through.
Review:
A fun, aesthetically accomplished genre romp that finds Adam Wingard back in leaner, meaner territory after a decade of studio blockbusters, even if the film feels in need of one more script pass to fully justify its stranger provocations.
