Fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts, heroes from three distinct universes, Earth-616's Avengers, Wakandans and New Avengers, the Fantastic Four of an alternate Earth, and a version of the original X-Men from another reality, are set on a deadly collision course as they unite against the existential threat of Victor von Doom. Bringing together one of the largest ensemble casts in the franchise's history, the fifth Avengers film serves as the opening chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's next phase, ahead of a already-announced sequel. A staggeringly ambitious crossover event that manages genuine emotional throughlines amid its enormous scale, even as the sheer size of its ensemble cast inevitably leaves some characters underserved.
