Synopsis:
Best remembered for his Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire, British stage and screen actor Ian Charleson faces the final year of his life as he prepares for what would become his defining role: Hamlet at London's National Theatre in 1989. Determined to complete the run despite his deteriorating health from AIDS-related illness, Charleson draws on the support of a devoted theatrical community to manage 24 performances before he is too ill to continue, in a tremendously moving account of art's sustaining power against mortality, anchored by a searing dual performance from Andrew Scott as both Charleson and Hamlet.
Review:
A tremendously moving, emotionally overwhelming account of the sustaining power of art, Andrew Scott's searing dual performance elevating material that occasionally leans on inspirational biopic cliché.
