Directed by Laxman Utekar, director of Mimi and Chhaava, the film tells the story of Vithabai's life and career, from her early years in the travelling Tamasha troupes of rural Maharashtra to her rise as an icon, and the sacrifices and struggles she faced as a woman in a demanding, often disregarded profession. Shraddha Kapoor plays Vithabai, with Randeep Hooda in a prominent role. The music is composed by the duo Ajay-Atul, known for their work in Marathi and Hindi cinema. The film's title became the subject of debate before release, with some members of Vithabai's family seeking a change, while her daughter supported it.
