Casey Becker is being harassed by a malicious phone caller who insists she play a chilling trivial pursuit game based on horror films, However, it is no longer a joke when he kills her boyfriend after she wrongly identifies the name of the murderer in the first 'Friday the 13th' film, and it becomes deadly serious when he then kills her. His next victim is Sidney Prescott, a teenager who has still to get over her mother's death a year ago and who is being pestered by tabloid TV reporter Gale Weathers because she may have mistaken her mother's lover for the murderer. After Sidney escapes an encounter with the hooded caller, her boyfriend Billy is arrested, but is let off when it is discovered the calls could not have come from his mobile phone, but are traced to Sidney's father, who is supposed to be away on business. Sidney seeks refuge with her friend Tatum, while Gale tries to seduce Tatum's brother, Deputy Dwight "Dewey" Riley. During a party at the Rileys, news arrives that the school principal has been slashed by the killer and hung from a tree. Most of the kids leave to rubberneck, but geekish horror movie buff Randy stays behind to watch 'Halloween'É A witty parody of the slasher genre that does for 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th' what 'Airplane' did to the peril-in-the-sky genre of 'Airport'. Lots of good in-jokes for fans, including uncredited appearances by Linda Blair and Wes Craven, as well as some good scares.
