Synopsis:
Tipped off that the evil Mr Freeze is robbing the Gotham City Museum of Art, Batman and Robin arrive to find the villain and his gang trying to nick a huge diamond. However, Freeze escapes by freezing Robin - forcing Batman to stay behind to thaw out the Boy Wonder. Meanwhile, research assistant Pamela Isley discovers that her boss, Dr Jason Woodrue, has created a man-monster, Bane; when she confronts him, Woodrue turns on her and leaves her for dead. However, she lives on - metamorphosising into Poison Ivy - a woman-plant whose goal is to rid the world of polluting human beings. Batman and Robin discover Freeze was once Dr Victor Fries, a scientist who, due to a botch up while trying to cryogenically preserve his dying wife, accidentally fell into a freezing fluid himself and emerged as Mr Freeze, who needs diamonds for his freezing equipment. Batman's alter-ego, millionaire Bruce Wayne, decides to throw a charity bash at Wayne Manor with a diamond auction, as a lure to Freeze. However, Poison Ivy gets there and hypnotises the dynamic duo with pheromones, so they end up falling for her and fighting each other over her. Freeze arrives at the party, but is caught; however, Poison Ivy falls for him and helps him escape. She then switches off Freeze's wife's life support system and blames Batman; enraged, Freeze swears vengeance. Meanwhile, Barbara, the niece of Wayne's butler, Alfred, discovers the Batcave and decides to transform herself as Batgirl to save Batman and Robin from Poison Ivy.
Review:
In the Batman movie which comes closest in flavour to the camp 60's TV serial, ÒER'sÓ George Clooney dons the Batsuit for the first time, and it's as though it were made for him from the beginning but Arnold Schwarzenegger, who started his movie career playing cartoon figures, seems strangely out-of-place here and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl is seriously under used.
