Synopsis:
Carrie White is a lonely, troubled and sexually repressed high school student who is generally the butt of classroom pranks. Then she discovers she has telekinetic powers and can move objects just with her mind. Feeling she is possessed by this sometimes uncontrollable power, she tries to maintain her sanity as she struggles through her problems at school, where nobody likes her, and at home - her mother is a man-hating religious maniac who forces Carrie in the closet to pray. Matters come to a head and Carrie unleashes her full powers when a group of students decide to play a practical joke and have her elected Prom Queen, only to embarrass and humiliate her.
Review:
Brian De Palma's first big hit is a classic of its sort and one of only a handful of films from horrormaster Stephen King's vast oeuvre that is any good; Sissy Spacek as the eponymous heroine is particularly good, perfectly depicting Carrie's loneliness and power. Expect a few shocks!
