Synopsis:
Enterprising young kid Sam moves, with his recently widowed mum Lucy and his older brother Michael, to his grandfather's home in Santa Cruz - the mass murder capital of the world. While Lucy soon finds herself being courted by local video shop owner Max, Michael meets and is instantly attracted to the beautiful young Star, who invites him to meet her gang, the Lost Boys, led by David. He is warned against getting involved in the gang by the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, who run a comic book shop on the broadwalk. The Lost Boys are vampires, they say, and give Michael some comic books about bloodsuckers and offer their services to help battle them. Infatuated with Star, and sceptical about the existence of vampires, Michael ignores their advice, only to find himself getting it in the neck. Sam, Edgar and Alan track the Lost Boys to their underground lair, where they find them hanging by their toenails from the ceiling. Armed with squirtguns filled with garlic juice and holy water, they get ready to take on the vampires and save Michael from a fate worse than undeath.
Review:
Energetic teen comedy/horror with some neat plot twists and great performances, particularly from Keifer Sutherland as the lead vampire, Corey Haim as the resourceful kid out to save his older brother, and Corey Feldman as the fearless little vampire killer, Edgar Frog; unfortunately, the ending is a clichéd shoot-'em-up.
