Deported from his native Cuba when Castro emptied the jails and sent the inmates to the US, Tony Montana is a small time hood who climbs quickly through the ranks of the Miami underworld, betraying all those who trusted him until he becomes a major crime lord. As rivals close in and his empire starts to crumble, Tony becomes hooked on the drugs he peddles and his incestuous feelings for his sister start to rage out of control.
Review:
Powerful stuff from director Brian de Palma, a loose updating of the 1932 Howard Hawks classic Scarface - Shame Of A Nation. Extreme violence - at one point Montana's sidekick in a drug deal is dismembered with a chainsaw - seems to be the solution to everything, but Oliver Stone's script has some pertinent points to make about power and its' corroding effects. Strong stuff, not for all stomachs.
