Frederick Frankenstein, a scientist so ashamed of his family's past he insists his surname is pronounced Fronkensteen, returns to the ancestral home of Castle Frankenstein, where he finds his ancestor's papers. Driven to create his own monster, aided by his hunchback assistant Igor, his creation is hampered by an abnormal brain, but Frederick is convinced he can transform him into a valuable member of society, or perhaps a song and dance man....
Review:
A wonderfully affectionate send-up of the old Universal horror movies, lovingly made by Mel Brooks at the height of his talents and with a very high joke rate, both visual and scripted. All the cast look as if they are having a wonderful time, especially Marty Feldman's clearly ad-libbing Igor, and the whole period feel is beautifully enhanced by terrific black and white photography from Gerald Hirschfeld. A terrific cameo too from Gene Hackman as the blind man of the forests.
